We are always delighted to work with our clients to update their resumes. We recommend a professional update every 1-2 years to make sure you're ready for new opportunities in these changing economic times!

An update isn't just about adding a new position. In addition to writing and adding the new material, we edit and re-evaluate the entire resume.  Updates include:

  1. A telephone consult to learn about your recent accomplishments, and experience.  (In some cases, we may do a new skills assessment to identify new skills and keywords.)
  2. A revamp of the qualifications summary to reflect your current credentials.
  3. A re-evaluation of the entire resume and format to ensure it will be effective in meeting your current goals.
  4. Composition and development of the new job description and accomplishments for your new position.
  5. Revising your past position into the past tense, and editing for content.
  6. Editing and condensing the oldest positions to make space for the new position.
  7. Reformatting the layout line-by-line to make room for the new material.
Fees for an update vary widely.  In most cases, it depends on the length of time since we last updated your resume, the number positions you've held since the last update, your current career level, and your new goals (career advancement, lateral move, new industry, etc.)

As a general rule, if it has been 1-4 years since your last update, the update fee is 50-60% of the fee for your original resume. If it has been 5+ years since your last update -- or if you are changing fields -- the fee may be the same or more than the cost of your initial resume. Why? After five years, the resume is essentially a whole new document.  Employers are primarily interested in what you've done recently -- so we devote the most space and time to your last five years of experience.
